Types of Vehicles Allowed to Drive
Regulations on the types of vehicles allowed to be driven with an ordinary driver's license under Japan's Road Traffic Law
An ordinary driver's license (普通免許) allows you to drive the following types of vehicles:
- Ordinary car:
- Gross weight under 3.5 tons.
- Maximum load capacity under 2,000 kg.
- Passenger capacity under 10 passengers.
- Small special vehicle (小型特殊自動車): Examples include small tractors and street cleaning vehicles.
- Small motorcycle (原動機付自転車): Motorcycles with an engine displacement of 50cc or less.
